Vashti​Dance Theater 

Our mission is to uplift, empower, inspire, and educate through dance and music performances, workshops, and events that blend the vernacular, traditional, and classical in an authentic contemporary perspective featuring live music and thought provoking choreography rooted in historical and socially relevant themes.  

David Alston, Musical Director

David Alston, a native of Durham, North Carolina is an accomplished musician specializing in World and Classical Percussion and is also a Teaching Artist, and Composer. David studied Percussion and Cello at Durham School of the Arts and North Carolina Central University. David has toured with The African American Dance Ensemble and Urban Bush Women. He has traveled to Hong Kong/Macau China, Tokyo, Japan, and Toronto, Canada. David has taught Percussion at Future Leader's Institute, and has been a teaching artist with Bronx Children's Museum and Ethical Culture Fieldston. He is currently the Musical Director of VashtiDance Theater and a Teaching Artist for Alvin Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs, Young Audiences New York, and Church Street School for Music and Art in Tribeca

Fatima Logan-Alston, Artistic Director 

Fatima Logan-Alston, Artistic Director, Founder

Fatima Logan-Alston (Durham, NC) Fatima received her BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA and earned a Teaching Artist Certification from the Teacher’s College at Columbia University. Fatima has performed internationally with Forces of Nature Dance Theater, the African-American Dance Ensemble, and her own company VashtiDance Theater. She has performed with Ntozake Shange, Bobby Sanabria, Paul Winters, and received recognition for her commitment to dance education from Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor. Fatima has been in residence at Long Island University Post and Gibney Dance and a Guest Teacher and Presenter at Hunter, Barnard, and Queens College. Fatima is currently a Teaching Artist with Alvin Ailey Arts in Education and is a MALS Graduate Student at SUNY at Old Westbury.
